Elle Macpherson was one of the most celebrated models in the 1980s. After getting featured on the cover of five different sports-illustrated swimsuit issues, she was nicknamed ‘the body’; all thanks to her well-developed physique that still exudes perfection in all senses.

At present, Elle is in her late 50s. Even after being a successful businesswoman, actress, TV host, and proud mom she hasn’t taken her physical beauty for granted. She still sticks to a well-structured fitness regime.

Elle Macpherson’s Workout Principles

Exercising has always been a prominent part of Elle’s lifestyle. After all, that’s how she has been able to maintain her immensely fit physique over the years. Even in her late 50s, she never misses her workout sessions and trains quite intensely.

But Elle’s fitness regime is not just confined to her gym training sessions. She also likes to play a variety of sports to stay in shape. So let’s get to know more about Elle Macpherson’s workout plan in the next section.

Elle Macpherson’s Workout Routine

Elle Macpherson’s workout routine usually extends to around no more than 1 hour. She trains 4-5 days a week and on different days she performs different training styles.

So let’s find out what all training styles she relies on to maintain her gorgeous physique and elite fitness levels:-

Yoga

Yoga is undoubtedly one of Elle’s favorite training styles. It enables her to stretch and relax her muscles well. This in turn works towards enhancing her body’s overall flexibility. She prefers to go to her yoga class every afternoon after completing her work.

Amongst all other forms of yoga, Elle primarily performs Vinyasa Yoga. While performing Vinyasa yoga, Elle has to coordinate the yoga poses with her breath as she moves from holding one pose to the other.

It subjects her body to a decent level of resistance training. It enables her to strengthen and tone up her muscles which give her body an aesthetic look.

Resistance training

Elle’s resistance training sessions are focused on giving her body a toned look. It also plays a crucial role in keeping her holistically fit.

Elle relies on bodyweight exercises as a part of her resistance training routine. The exercises which she performs are as follows:-

  • Hip Extension – 10 reps
  • Single Leg Hip Extension – 10 reps on each leg
  • The ‘Y’ – 15 reps
  • Lunge with Rotation – 15 reps on each leg
  • Pushups – 10 reps

Cardio

Elle performs cardiovascular exercises to keep her body slim along with working on her cardiovascular endurance. Her everyday exercise routine starts with early morning cardio. She also performs a cardio session after her yoga classes in the afternoon.

Elle often switches up the exercises in her cardio sessions. This keeps her cardio sessions more exciting and fetches her body with great results. Some of Elle’s most preferred cardio exercises are:-

  • Working out on the elliptical
  • Going for long walks
  • Swimming laps (preferably in the ocean)

Mental health

As we mentioned before, Elle loves performing Vinyasa yoga. But apart from it, she also likes to go with gentler forms of yoga which relax her mind and keeps her stress free. She performs meditation, breathing exercises, and stretching for that purpose. This in turn keeps her mental health on point.

Outdoor sports

Elle simply admires playing outdoor sports. And we must say that it is one of the most exciting ways to stay in shape. Some of the sports that she loves playing are skiing, water skiing, cycling, paddle boarding, running, etc.

Incorporating sports into one’s training program makes it more exciting. It adds the element of fun to it along with subjecting the body to a great workout.

Elle Macpherson follows a plant-based alkaline diet plan. She adopted it after it was advised to her by her nutritionist Dr. Simone Laubscher. Relying on it not only improved her levels of physical fitness but also made her feel more healthy from the inside.

Since Elle follows an alkaline diet, food items such as wheat, sugar, dairy, processed food, and red meat have no place in her diet chart. She mostly prefers eating raw food items that include fresh fruits and vegetables. Her diet plan also consists of food items such as poached eggs, oatmeal, seeds, greens, olive oil, etc.

  • Elle Macpherson’s meal plan usually consists of 3 major meals and 2 snacks.

Let’s get to know about them in detail:-

Meal 1- Breakfast

Elle starts her day by having hot water and lemon juice. If she is feeling bloated, she replaces lemon juice with Apple cider vinegar.

Then she takes her greens supplement which fetches her body with a decent dose of vitamins, minerals, and probiotics. At times she also likes having matcha tea in the morning.

Elle likes to have variety in her breakfast meal. Some of her most preferred breakfast items include the following:-

  • Oatmeal soaked in hemp milk
  • Chia seed pudding (she flavors it with nutmeg, ginger, cardamom, and cinnamon)
  • Poached eggs and avocado (preferably on weekends)
  • Fruits
  • Mochas with whipped cream

Meal 2- Lunch

Elle prefers to have a light yet highly nutritious lunch. Just like her breakfast, she likes variety in her lunch as well. Some of her most preferred dishes for lunch are as follows:-

  • Raw or lightly cooked vegetables
  • Salmon (optional) with olive oil and lemon
  • Pearl barley
  • Beetroot salad

At times she just likes to have salad for lunch. It consists of the following:-

  • Cucumber
  • Spinach
  • Cabbage
  • Avocado
  • Pumpkin seeds
  • Coriander
  • Sprouts
  • Kale
  • Sunflower seeds

She uses olive oil for dressing her salad and tops it with sardines.

On some days, she even likes having vegetables with sunflower toast.

Meal 3- Snack 1

  • Green smoothie OR
  • Sesame
  • Kelp crackers
  • Seaweed OR
  • A couple of dates

Meal 4- Snack 2

  • Protein shake (made with protein powder with either water and avocado, or milk and banana)

Meal 5- Dinner

Elle’s dinner usually has a higher proportion of seasonal vegetables. Some of the most preferred dishes that she likes having as dinner are:-

  • Eggs with veggies
  • Hummus with seed bread and vegetables
  • Sea bass with a Greek salad
  • Pasta with butternut squash
  • Vegan pizza

On days when Elle craves dessert, she likes having vegan ice cream and dark chocolate.

Elle also makes it a point to drink up to 3 liters of water a day. This allows her to keep her body well-hydrated.

80/20 diet plan

Elle has never fallen into the trap of extreme or crash diets. She just ensures to rely on a balanced and nutritious diet plan and follows the 80/20 rule.

This further means that 80% of the time she prefers eating healthy and nutritious food items and for the rest 20% of the time, she relishes eating steak or ice cream and drinking wine.

Such an approach enables her to stick to a nutritious diet plan along with satisfying her cravings whenever they arise.

Foods to avoid

To keep her fitness levels on point, there are certain food items that Elle simply avoids having. Food items that are extremely processed or fried or have artificial ingredients in them have no place in her diet chart. She also stays away from consuming refined sugar to stay in shape.

Elle Macpherson’s Supplements

To make her nutrition plan as perfect as it can be, Elle doesn’t shy away from including a few supplements in it. Elle Macpherson’s supplements stack includes the following:-

  • Protein powder
  • Multivitamins

When it comes to having protein powder as a supplement, Elle usually prefers to go with rice protein or pea protein variant. Consuming them enables her to meet her everyday protein intake which keeps her body in an anabolic state.

Elle also prefers having a multivitamin supplement that fetches her body with different micronutrients that further enhance her overall fitness levels.
